Event Tournament of Darkness (House Tenebris ~ Shadow Blade)

Temple Guard
Krayiss II

Move 4/7

Coming out of his spin to avoid the acolytes double pronged attack, the guard reset into a defensive stance. His spear at the ready in a forward hold that had the tip of the spear aimed slightly forward at the acolyte. Drawing upon the force the guard readied for another attack, carefully noting the field of debris around them both.

An eerie screech sounded as the two shadows dissolved against his force barrier. Zan’rocs opponent was nowhere to be seen. “Off to watch from a distance” He muttered. The use of the shadows were brilliant in that regard. It had distracted Zan’roc long enough for his foe to withdrawal and recouperate.

Zan’roc retreated to a corner of the fighting area wiping some sweat from his brow. It might’ve been Cold but the heat of battle had broken a sweat from him.

“Cleverly done Matyr” He called out his eyes roving the area. “Though I didn’t take you as one to retreat from a fight... are you that worn out already? What would people think seeing you hiding like a scared rabbit?”

while he spoke Zan’roc moved in a circle keeping an eye out for anything around him. Matyr was a clever opponent and Zan’roc wasn’t going to take any chances.

Round number 4

After Urizen attempted to kick with his leg, hopefully knocking Regavar over or at least unbalance him, at the same time Urizen followed through with a telekinetic force push hopefully injuring his opponent, as well as catching him and aiding him in his attack.

Quickly, after his move Urizen activated force barrier, going back on the defensive to regain his lost energies and get his footing back in place, so he would be ready for the next move that was about to come and would be ready to counter.

Urizen watched his enemy closely, watching every move he made not caring how subtle it was, he was looking for an opening and that’s what he would do.

Regavar had knocked Urizen to his knees, and barely missed cutting off his opponents saber-hand, then stepped back and to his own left. Urizen had lashed out with a kick but had used his left leg to do so, while Regavar had been on his right side, so the kick completely missed it's target. Urizen had also attempted to drain Regavar's energy, but since he'd already recloaked changed position, that attack missed as well. He KNEW the attempt was made due to his connection with the force. The telekinetic push would also be aimed in the wrong direction. Lastly, Urizen had raised a barrier.

Urizen didn't know where Regavar was. He was lashing out in the hopes a random hit would land. He'd have to try harder that that! Sensing his opponents confusion, Regavar would use an illusion, in the hopes to unsettle and distract Urizen. Creating a whisper in his opponents ear. A mocking whisper would be heard, "Poor Urizen. Lost, confused, FINISHED. Heh heh heh heh heh! You will never win."

Regavar had recloaked after knocking his opponent to the ground, and had circled to a position behind Urizen. As the last words of the whisper were uttered, he would take two quick steps toward Urizen's back, unleashing a viscious kick aimed at the back of his right knee, in an affort to make the knee buckle. The kick would be followed by a strike from the tonfa. As he swung, he ignited its blade, attempting to sever head from neck.

He was having to work to control his breathing now. He'd been conserving energy, but constant use of the force was starting to have an affect. However he would continue taking slow, deep breaths. He was also thinking of only two things, the elements, and the prize. The stakes were high, and Regavar played to win.

After taking the swipe at Urizen's neck, he would take a single step back, taking a left-handed boxing stance, and pointing the blade of his tonfa away from himself, preparing for what he hoped would be the final blow.

~Round 4 of 7~

Enraged. This is how Loharr felt. Reaching for with his staff with his left hand, split his saberstaff in two, bringing them in front of him and rolling both of them forward in his wrists. He shifted his body to favor his right side, his left side further from his opponent. His sabers were in ready positions. He focused his rage, his anger. He would have to force Sirrus to get on the defensive.

With his left hand, still gripping the saber hilt, he gripped numerous small, loose rocks from the ground. Once they were in his grasp, he thrust his left side forward, shifting his feet to match the changing stance, and pushing his left hand forward, throwing the small stones at Sirrus. Then, throwing his right side forward, his feet shifted with his stance again, and he threw his right hand forward, Pushing forward at the rocks to propel them faster at his opponent.

Then, lunging forward at his enemy, Loharr rolled his sabers forward in his wrists again, slashing at his Housemate from his head to his feet with two powerful swings.

As these two slashes reached the bottom of their arcs, Loharr had it so his wrists had crossed each other, his right wrist over his left, his arms and sabers creating an "X", and then pressing forward still, Loharr cross slashed at Sirrus with both sabers, hoping to force Sirrus onto the defensive.

Bril gritted his teeth and from. The guard blocked both sabers with efficiency and reset his stance in a defensive posture. Spear point aimed directly at him, the Twi'lek made ready to attack again.

'Don't think this guard was expecting the second saber. Safe to say he's gonna be a bit more careful now,' he thought.

Reversing the grip of his cyan saber in his left hand, Bril swung his cyan saber aiming at the Guard's spear. He intended to knock it off balance and break the Guard's stance. Immediately after swinging for the spear to knock it off balance, Bril lunged forward with his violet saber in his right hand aimed directly for the Shadow Guard's upper torso.

4/7

The ground shifting beneath him, Sirrus felt the shake and stumbled as he continued his steps backwards. His opponent had recovered quickly from his drain; much quicker than expected; nevertheless, Sirrus needed to maintain advantage. Jumping backwards out of his stumble Sirrus gained some distance from his opponent.

Loharr had responded with rage from Sirrus' feint, splitting his saberstaff in two and sending multiple rocks towards Sirrus. Carefully Sirrus utilized his skill with his Lightsaber slashing defensively at his opponents flurry of stones. Some of the smaller struck him on his left side as he spun his saber in his right; the rocks were bruising and made him flinch in pain; however, he maintained his stance while he finished off the last stones.

His opponent then charged towards him in anger, Sirrus spun dodging the first two downward slashes, lightsaber pointing upward and toward his opponent; he side stepped to the right just when his opponent brought up his two lightsabers in an upward crossing slash; the Lightsabers connected with his in an explosion of sound. The three lightsabers locked in a crossed star; Sirrus balancing his strength, maintained his stance while shaking off his bruised left arm to raise it at the ready.

~4/7~

He watched as Zan'roc's eyes traced over the grounds, overlooking where Matyr had vanished to, goading Matyr from where he stood, bold and fruitless. The assassin Zan'roc faced harbored no qualms about underhanded trickery so the attempt at Dun Moch yielded no result. Matyr moved towards his opponent again stealthily and quickly. Silence wasn't important. Making less noise than your surroundings creates the illusion of silence, which is all you need.

Matyr approached from behind, saber in his left hand, stretching his right hand out sending a gust of the Force a few feet in front of Zan'roc and off to his left. Placing both hands on his saber a dash to the right was accompanied by a horizontal slash. Matyr had activated his saber, dropping the cloak in the process. Matyr crouched low in motion before he landed, flowing his saber in a tight arc towards Zan'roc's feet. The cut moved his saber back to the left side of his body. Keeping the momentum and accelerating it for one final slash from low to high diagonally in attempts to cleave his opponent in twine.

Matyr was determined to see the next phase of the tournament, which meant Zan'roc had to lose. One of them would inevitably, but Matyr believed his desire to hold the title was greater than any who entered. There was no backing away or biding time. Only the fight.

Katagaris tensed as the lightsabers swung twords his face. Feeling a searing pain and a tugging sensation as his left tusk is severed from his face. The sudden loss of weight pitches his head to the side as his eyes open wide with anger. The change in balance shifts his body position dragging his legs away from the second stroke so that instead of crippling him the cloth is cut and his leg suffers a burn from the heat of her blade.

"Katagaris! She cut your tusk off. It's going to make you slightly off balance since you only have one. It can be reattached later. Pull yourself together."

Choosing to not answer The Voice because Madora was ready for anything, Katagaris begins a bubbling laugh until it subsides to just a giggle. Reaching up he unclasps his Mask. Letting it drop to the ground. His face is scarred and teeth abnormally sharp.

"Now you see me, now you don't."

Katagaris stomps on the ground and lifts up dirt and anything else his powers over the earth have. Then turning his wrist quickly, with palm outward, he attempts to blind or at least stun Madora so he can dash around the cloud to swing both of his sabers at her back hoping to score a blow that would wound her beyond her sliced stomach.

~Round 4 Feedback~

This will not happen overnight, like anything that you wish to excel at you must work at it and improve. One thing to note, that in my eyes is important, this particular type of craft, gaming, and art is dependent on two things: imagination, writing skill. Imagination is something that cannot be taught; we all either have it or we do not. The writing skill can be learned and improved upon. I bring this up to illustrate a point. If you were a painter or a musician, in order to grow and truly be effective in your craft you need mastery and skill. Only being able to paint one dimensional figures may serve a purpose in telling a simple story or projecting an idea, but eventually you are going to be limited in your expression and what you can do. As a musician if you can only play a few notes, you may be able to craft some lovely melodies and jingles but you will never be able to craft a song or symphony.

As a writer you can convey a basic story and ideas, but you will never be able to expressively convey the imagination you have if your writing is sloppy, choppy, and incoherent. Many times we forget that while an image and scene may be clear in OUR head, it is not clear to the reader. When you write you have to approach your writing from the ‘readers’ perspective and this is the first mistake most writers make. Thus the reader misses out on many things and specific context, because the writer did not go into proper detail to explain and more importantly relate certain aspects of the writing to clearly set things up and “paint” the mental picture.

So how do you accomplish this?

Simple. Read your writing before you publish/post it. Then read it again, as I have mentioned in previous feedback. Check for grammar, check for spelling, and look for opportunities to rephrase or re-write things to make them clearer or flow more.

Moving onto more direct feedback of the tournament posts themselves.

Focus on the details, if you are using something a power or a move - detail it out what is it - where did it come from - what is driving it. Some of you are coming up with viable solid moves and counters, but there is nothing behind them in detail. It is really boring when a player writes that they use a “power” because they are “angry” …. Why are you angry? Is there a well of suffering sorrow that this anger is emanating from? Tell us.

Still seeing choppy writing - re-read your posts - even your simple short ones.

You have to defend and acknowledge an opponent's attack…

You CAN avoid it, but you must write and describe how you would do so and why. If your post makes no mention of your opponent’s move and you react to it, then you will by default be subject to its effects and potentially take damage.

Even if your opponent's attack/move/defense seems questionable you must acknowledge it and react to it. If you intend to appeal a move or get a ruling from a GM, do so, but again do not simply ignore attacks. Convince the reader and the GM why your move is better and why it would succeed or not succeed, that is your goal.

~Regavar~

~Krayiss II~

~5\7~

Regavar pressed his attack. He couldn't be angry at his fellow apprentice. At least there was nothing personal about this. All he knew was, Urizen was in his way. He'd been given a goal, and he would achieve it! The honor of winning the title of Shadow Blade of House Tenebris. And as far as he was concerned, if it was between him and the completion of a task, to Typhojem with they would go.

Regavar felt the thrill of overcoming an obstacle, almost overwhelmed by it. It was exhilarating! A wry grin pulled at the corner of his mouth as he drank it in. He had gotten so lost in battle, he no longer saw Urizen in front of him. Instead, he saw a vision of his past. The face of the man who'd killed his family. He was overcome with a deep seeeded rage and hatred. An anger born of years of pent up frustration. He had yet to find the man, but with a victory now, he'd be one step closer to being prepared for hunting and eliminating him.

Drawing from that well of hatred, he reached out with the force, attempting to grab Urizen by the throat. At the same time, he would touch the emitter to Urizen's back, and activate the blade of his tonfa, attempting to skewer the man while choking off his windpipe.

Urizen felt everything, he felt an invisible a grip on his throat and quickly as he could activated force barrier to prevent any further damage done to his throat, due to the constriction from Regavar, Urizen gritted his teeth as his throat stung from the attack on his windpipe, saliva dripped from his jaw and teeth, due to the small attack.

Urizen then quickly infused his body with telekinetic energy to hopefully speed up his movements and rolled to the side before he hopefully activated his tonfa, leading to his inevitable doom. Urizen rolled a few feet to the left landing back on his feet and watched as seconds after, where he had been the tonfa activated, causing a breath of relief escape from the nearly-steward Urizen’s lips.

Urizen was mortified by his brother’s actions and thought “he really is out to kill me? is he that determined to end a relationship for personal gain, he really disgusts me”, a tear dropped from Urizen eye, as soon as the emotions came, they disappeared, and he got into a defensive pose standing up slowly with eyes of steal, panting hard due to the amount of fatigue his force reserves had gone through.

His stance strong and balanced, the cross-bladed lightsaber in his right as his left hand was held back behind him in balance; charging electric. Immediately, Sirrus flurried his lightsaber in an attempt to spin or disarm his opponent; he spun as well, clockwise, slashing with control an upper cross body swing of his lightsaber followed by a downward diagonal slash.

Bringing his left hand over the slash he released a bolt of lightning, coupled by the fear of loss, and the fear of his Master's reprimand following a possible failure; this all out charged bolt aimed directly at his opponent's chest.

Sirrus yelled from this effort; as he continued his attacks pressing downward with the next swing of his lightsaber. This duel had gone on long enough he thought to himself. As he brought his lightsaber down on his opponent again, the thrill of releasing his fear and anger into that charge of lightning; allowing himself to feel that thrill of victory as he followed through with every swing to slice or disable his opponent.

As his saber surged towards the Shadow Guard's chest, Bril's mind raced. He knew fighting a House Guard would be tough but what could he say? The Twi'lek loved a challenge. 'Come on tin man die for me would ya?' He thought. Behind his mask Bril grinned as an idea struck his mind.

Calling upon the force, he focused on the guard. Using telekinesis he attempted to pull the Guard towards him. His hope was to cause the Shadow Guard to stumble forward and have a violet blade pierce his heart.

~Round 5 of 7~

Disappointment. That was the main emotion that Loharr had felt, watching his opponent leap backwards from his attempt to quake the ground below him. But that disappointment quickly turned to pride watching the small stones he propelled forward strike his opponent. He watched with extreme animosity as his fellow Housemate dodged his downward slash with a spin. Though as Loharr had slashed upwards at his opponent, the three crimson blades had clashed, forming a six pointed star.

He had felt anger and hatred, emotions that were strong with him, but he wouldn't deign to allow those emotions to control him. Emotions without control were energy that was wasted, and wasted energy was useless energy.

Though whilst the three lightsabers were locked together, Loharr closed his eyes and took a deep breath, opening them as he exhaled, reveling in the emotions flowing through him, a renewed sense of focus and determination washing over him.

With this new focus, he shifted his eyes to Sirrus' left hand, which was behind his opponent. There was a brief feeling, more akin to instinct really, that his opponent was about to use his left hand for something, but precisely what for, that part was a complete mystery.

Then, Sirrus flurried his lightsaber, and given the amount of strength Loharr was putting into the saber lock, the large, red "X" shot skyward with ferocious speed, slicing through several falling snow flurries.

As his lightsabers were both high above his head, still within his grasp, Loharr watched as his opponent spun around, the cross-guarded saber quickly coming around to slash across his chest. In that instant, Loharr swiftly brought his lightsabers down, vertical in orientation and parallel in alignment. Like music to his ears, the cross-guarded saber hissed across both crimson lightsabers. After the lightsabers hissed, Loharr saw the lightsaber of his opponent reverse its momentum, returning back towards him in a downward slash, and thinking quickly, Loharr leapt backwards, the blade of his Housemates' weapon slashing harmlessly in front of him.

Then, as soon as the saber finished its attacking arc, Loharr watched as Sirrus' left hand shot forward, lightning erupting from his opponents' extremities. Choosing to evade once more, Loharr Jumped to his right, utilizing the Force to jump farther and higher than he could on his own. He was able to evade his opponent this time, having learned from the last time Sirrus had used lightning against him.

As the lightning dissipated, he saw his enemy continue towards him, slashing downward as he got closer and closer to Loharr.

He felt an opportunity arise.

He deactivated his left lightsaber, and swung his right one at Sirrus. Swinging with as much strength as he could muster, Loharr aimed to directly parry the attack, using the strength of the move to try and direct the cross-guarded lightsaber far to his right side, Sirrus' left. With the swing made, he pushed his left hand forward, Pushing through the Force to knock his opponent off balance. With his lightsaber ready, Loharr brought it down again, slashing at his opponent, aiming to slash from his own right, down and across, finishing on the left. As he did this, he brought his left hand back to remove it from any immediate risk posed by his opponent.

He knew not what the results of this string of events would be, but he could only hope that they would be in his favor.

5/7

The young Shadow acolyte showed a determined resolve, gathering the force and using the force to attempt to yank the guard forward with a force pull. Already in a defensive stance, the guard was anticipating an attack. Despite being ready, the young opponent showed strength with the force pull, and the guard was pulled forward. The guard quickly gathered his steps, using the momentum to augment his own attack and thrust. His spear extended and tip already in a forward position due to the extended reach of the weapon, now put the spear into dangerous proximity as it was set to skewer the acolyte. The acolyte’s thought to bring him off balance with the force pull, only served to put himself in more danger.

Mindful of the acolyte’s violet blade, the guard aimed the spear center mass. A move that would force the acolyte back on the defensive or risk the spear breaching his saber guard.

Back pedaling he brought his Orange saber up in the path of her sabers in a hasty attempt to bat her blades away from him to allow him to harness his anger and indulge in a sadistic pleasure. He created a barrier that is approximately 6 feet tall by 4 foot wide in front of Madora to hopefully stun her for only a brief moment. Then he focused on his anger, his pent up rage, his sorrow, is feeling of loss, and also his determination. If one could see his emotions he would appear to be engulfed in a black and red writhing mass of emotions. He wouldn't lose to her. He wouldn't lose until his title was Shadow Blade. ~Round 5 Feedback~

Some of you take a step forward and two steps back at times. This round was suffering with some poor writing across the board, you ALL have to do better. Remember more is not necessarily best, cramming as much as you can into one post can water it down - be detailed but do not drone on or extend the encounter or move longer than it needs to be.

Again, many of you are still trying to do too much, to the point when reading through your moves you lose any initiative or sense of direction in your writing. Some of it was confusing and hard to understand.

One thing I have learned over the years that is essential to writing, is that your brain does not think how you write. You have to train yourself to write for the reader, and not for yourself. Which can be very hard to conceptualize. Our brains have the ability to see what we are thinking and to an extent very vividly visualize and imaging those things we have in our mind. Many of our first drafts are exactly that - a stream of consciousness that makes sense to us, but does not make written sense at all. Grammatically it does not come out in a way that the reader will follow. Just remember your readers are not “mind readers”.

Spelling and grammar while seemingly lost on a large portion of society are not something in this form or gaming and story telling that you can compromise. This is not to say we all do not make a few mistakes from time to time, simply that you have to pay attention to it! When you do not your “good“ ideas, story telling, or moves are overshadowed by poor writing and mistakes and this takes away from the experience you as a writer are trying to convey and the picture you are trying to paint with your words.

You want to be clear - re-read, re-draft, re-write.

Look back through the previous feedback and review them, as there is not much more I can put forth as far as basic instruction.
