The Mandalorian Discussion Thread

This thread will remained tagged as a spoiler thread until Friday, January 3, after 1 week has passed since the release of the season finale, Episode 8 - Redemption.

Jon Favreau has gifted the world with the greatest Star Wars gift known to mankind... and its name is Baby Yoda. The Mandalorian has been one of the most popular Star Wars media ventures to date. It has brought many fascinating facets into focus to the Star Wars universe, and shone a wonderful spotlight on some old EU lore as well as brought some new lore, too.

Let's discuss!

HEY SO EPISODE 8, RIGHT?

I have many, many questions following the appearance of what is clearly the ancient Darksaber, the one-time weapon of Tarre Vizsla, Pre Vizsla Sabine Wren, and Bo Katan Kryze, in the hands of the new character, Moff Gideon.

Chiefly, how did the Darksaber fall into the hands of Moff Gideon? It was last seen passing from Sabine Wren to Bo Katan Kryze, so the assumption is that at some point between 1 BBY and 9 ABY, Gideon acquires the saber. My main question is, how? What happens to Bo Katan and the Mandalorians that results in the Mandalorians needing to go into hiding, and allows for the Darksaber to fall into the hands of the Empire?

My hope is that either season 2 will answer this question, or we'll get some kind of book or comic in the intermediary that helps explain what's happened to Mandalore after the fall of the Empire...

Darksaber freakout aside, I have to say I have been thoroughly enjoying watching the Mandalorian, and must admit I am very pleased overall with the direction Disney is taking Star Wars media. Tuning in every week to watch almost an entire hour of brand-new Star Wars live action content has been an absolute joy-- Baby Yoda aside. I can't wait to see where Season 2 takes us, and I have all my fingers crossed that we see more of the Mandalorian, Din Djarin, in other media in the next year or so.

Anyone have any favorite highlights from Season 1 of the Mandalorian?

Some of my favorite moments were the forging of the beskar, and the ritualistic nature of it all. Very lore handed down from generation to generation, not relying on the technical affinity that the rest of the galaxy has. Very simply one individual to another. Making it a very intimate and sacred exchange. Revered and hallowed when they speak of it and even more when the forge it into what ONLY they know how to forge such into.

I absolutely adored the forging scenes. The Armorer was probably one of my absolute favorite characters of the whole show.

It gives a raw feeling to what goes into the character. Throughout the SW universe we constantly see amazing technology and awe inspiring things. This whole sequence broke that all down to a much more human level, showing a behind the scenes view if you will, into the galaxy. It is not simply just "tech" it is people pouring their blood, sweat, and tears into the things they have. Give real meaning to them.

On a side note, this is one of the things I loved about the Corellia sequence in Solo, when you see the Star Destroyers being manufactured in the industrial sections. It makes them real, tangible IMO.

I loved the forging scenes and the might of the leader of the Mandalorians it was quite powerful. It was also a way to show how the Mandalorian society had changed being driven to hide instead of showing their power it was a change of pace as to how we’ve previously seen the mandalorians

It is an interesting view, knowing what we know about the Mandalorians from the past in the SW universe. Even to the point that not long ago in Galactic history within the Clone Wars (as evidence by the Clone Wars episodes that focused on the Mandalorians) and from games such as KOTOR in which the Mandalorians ae a featured society with immense power during the backstory, (I.E. the Mandalorian Wars and how Revan and the Jedi pushed them back and eventually stopped them) it shows just how powerful and present they were. This in contrast to how they have to live in the Mandalorian TV show is truly a change in fate and life.

Lots of rumors abound.

With announcement of Rosario Dawson to play Ahsoka. Rumor of even Daniel Logan potentially playing Boba Fett.

Has anyone had trouble streaming Season 2, Episode 3?

How is this chat not alive? This season has been wonderful! Before I continue, I’m assuming full disclosure is allowed in this thread? I know spoliation isn’t nice.

Hmm...I have no clue about spoilers...maybe it adheres to the rules in the FB group that I've seen in there sometimes?

Well, unless a moderator wants to say anything, I’m going to assume that anyone looking at this thread will be up to date.
I’m gonna say a few things:
I loved Rosario Dawson! I can’t wait to see more of Ahsoka. That little duel was great.
And who do could we expect to see answer Grogu’s call from that Seeing Stone?

As far as spoilers - I would go off the original timeline for the final episode for Jan 3. (since it was a very similar release time).
