Surges of deep blue electricity lit up the stormy sky. The night was pitch-black and the wind whipped violently through the canopies of the forest as lightning stretched down, grasping at tree limbs. The incoming tempest bowed tree trunks and tore at the soil as the rain began to fall steadily. The boughs and branches of the barren trees that drew in around the palace Penumbra snapped and echoed like crackling logs in a fire.
It was a rare, moonless night and, save for the few lights that lined the path up Mount Tantis, the landscape was cloaked in blackness. What little visibility the stars might provide was drowned out by the deluge. The thick, gray clouds hung low in the sky, hovering low around the peaks of the mountain.
The whole landscape spoke of misery, and as a font of power this place exuded a simply miserable existence. Yet here they arrived, having been summoned, in the dead of night, due to their own curiosity and fervent inquiries... in a sense bringing this upon themselves. Still the promise of instruction, education, and learning held sway with the majority of individuals who sought power and to rise beyond what they were. All three had been chosen because their desire for knowledge outweighed the threat of that accompanied it. They understood the risks.
Many had hesitated to accept the offer, fearing the price of such knowledge. However, the three of them had spoken up and accepted.
The designated landing pad on the side of the mountain, was big enough for a corvette and would easily be able to accommodate three transports of varying size. When the small group arrived, they would be greeted by three acolytes. Hooded and cloaked in black, they each held a blindfold out for the students of the Dark Lord and Lady. They would lead them through the dark, narrow labyrinth of tunnels inside Mount Tantiss. They trod through mud and pools of stagnant water and below dripping stalactites to a chamber which held a number of alchemical apparatuses and all manner of dark and unfamiliar objects. Mount Tantis itself was a hub of dark energy, a nexus of the dark side, but the energies in this chamber seemed especially potent.
