Constructed by Kuat Drive Yards and designed to emulate the best elements of both the “Invisible hand” and the “Malevolence”, the IRD-72 “Shadow of Death” was built not only to combine those elements, but improve upon and adapt them for a more modern age of space warfare. Classified as a Para-level One superproject during its construction, the “Shadow of Death” is possibly the most powerful weapon ever created for the Sons of Cruor. Armed and armored to the teeth, the “Shadow of Death”, or “Dodens Skugga” as known in Kalee by its master, was purposefully constructed to maximize its capacity for space combat, psychological warfare and mass destruction. Outfitted with literally thousands of laser batteries and point-defense weaponry the “Shadow” is a one-ship fleet capable of performing planetary operations and combat theaters single-handedly.

Upon first glance the most impressive feature of the “Shadow” is the design of her hull. Shaped like the spine of some vast eldritch creature from the abyss of space, the “Shadow” employs its sheer size and appearance as psychological warfare for its first means of attack. If this proverbial first attack does not force a surrender, then lining the hollows scored along the side of the hull and in the gaps between the spines are the thousands of weapon placements, hangar bay doors and superweapon projection vents that will. Encompassing the entire breath of the vessel, there is no blind spot nor place outside of the “Shadow’s” firing arcs. Her point defense batteries and flak cannons make starfighter sorties all but suicidal as well as shredding any capital ship that comes within range. Not that it would need to get in close to do so; the sheer number of turbolasers, cannons and warhead launcher batteries can easily obliterate the most heavily shielded Star Destroyer at range in a matter of seconds and completely glass an entire planet via orbital bombardment in a matter of hours. With the amount of weapons mounted on her hull, it is no exaggeration to say that the “Shadow” could take on an entire planetary system’s defense navy and single-handedly defeat them with nary a scratch.

Possibly the greatest weapon aboard the “Shadow” is its experimental, omni-directional ion burst generator. Taking the concept of the ion pulse cannon from the “Malevolence”, the “Shadow” has improved upon the design and integrated it throughout its frame. Instead of two primary cannons like its predecessor, the “Shadow” has hundreds of smaller ion pulse generator apertures arrayed in formation all over the hull. Marshaled particularly densely in the trenches along the side of the hull and in the gaps between the spines, each one is systematically synchronized with the others surrounding it. The result of this synchronization is a massive network that functions as a massive, all-encompassing, omni-directional ion pulse cannon. When fired, the “Shadow’s” ion burst generator can be focused any number of its apertures in any direction - as opposed to the “Malevolence’s” linear port and starboard cannons - creating an initial ion pulse up to the size of the “Shadow’s” profile the would expand as it traveled. The burst generator can also fire all its apertures simultaneously, unleashing a spherical ion pulse on everything around it. This spherical ion burst would, like its previous variations, continue to expand in size and breadth the further it progressed from the “Shadow”. As an improvement over the original ion pulse cannon, the ion charge is distributed across hundreds of apertures at any given time instead of being hyper concentrated in any single location. The greatest change as a result is that it is no longer possible to overload the generator due to the widespread distribution of the ion charge. Even if a significant number of apertures are damaged, the ion pulse initially meant for the damaged aperture can be rerouted to others nearby for a more powerful ion discharge. Additionally, the ion burst generator draws power from two dedicated III-a1a primary hypermatter-annihilation reactors, functionally placing it on a separate power grid from the rest of the ship's systems. This allows it to fire its ion burst significantly faster than its predecessor, more comparable to a slow firing turbo laser, and for it to fire concurrently with the rest of the "Shadow's" weaponry instead of needing to disrupt the flow of power from one to the other for either's use.

The second most powerful asset in the “Shadow’s” arsonal are the fifteen experimental Hadron cannon superlasers. An upgraded variation of the axial superlaser, these Hadron cannon superlasers uses a combination of opila and hurrikaine kyber crystals, as well as a mass of synthetic kyber crystals, to power their devastating beams. Manifesting as an unstable, continuous red-and-black torrent of light, the Hadron cannons’ beams possess all the power of the axial superlaser, along with the added effects of having the properties of a disintegrator ray, the concussive force of a maser as well as leaving a field of deadly phase five radiation in its wake. The power of these Hadron beams can easily overwhelm the strongest of shields, essentially being able to take down other dreadnaughts with a single shot. The beams, each with a hundred and fifty foot diameter, can near-instantly overwhelm any shield and instantly disintegrate any unshielded object it makes contact with. Used primarily in planetary bombardment, the Hadron cannon beams - instead of melting or detonating their targets as other super lasers would - uses its properties to rapidly implode its targets on contact at the molecular level. This manifests as the near-instant evaporation of anything the beam touches, leaving virtually nothing behind. Like the ion burst generator, the Hadron cannons draw power from a pair of dedicated III-a1a primary hypermatter-annihilation reactors, again effectively placing it on a seperate power grid, garnering the same benefits of allowing it to fire concurrently with the rest of the "Shadow's" arsonal by not needing to disrupt the ship's flow of power for one weapons system over the other, and hastening its overall firing speed.

Accompanying these weapons are the legions of combat droids aboard the “Shadow”. Numbering in the literal thousands, the “Shadow” is more garrisoned than outfitted with a vast number of battle droids. And each one has been modified with even deadlier weapons and armor to outfit them for this new age of modern warfare. Amongst its embarked legions the dreadnought carries a wide variety of battle droids to carry out her purposes, including EG-5 Jedi Hunter and YVH-series battle droids, Q-series droidekas, BX-series droid commandos, wings of droid tri-fighters and companies of IG-227 Hailfire-class droid tanks. Every droid aboard the “Shadow” has had its chassis and frame built with reinforced duraplast, making each one highly resistant to ion weaponry and further resistant to conventional weaponry in addition to their factory-issued armor. Each of these droid’s artificial brains is linked to the “Shadow’s” highly advanced wetware central processing core - the still-conscious brain of former Kaleesh chieftess and Karolus Rexx Sheelal’s grandmother, Sanning Obojd Kummar - located deep within the ship’s frame, hidden within a secure, impervium-neuranium vault lined with reinforced duraplast. With this vast collective network spread across the thousands of droids in a synchronized system - combined with the chieftess’ vast knowledge on war strategy - the “Shadow’s” computing and processing capacity is the most powerful known computing network in the galaxy, acting as a military hive mind more than capable of out-thinking and out-strategizing than even the most brilliant of modern military minds.

Complementing both its weaponry and her embarked troops, the “Shadow” is equipped with eight gravity well projectors. When all eight are activated the “Shadow” creates an immensely large gravity well comparable to the size of a gas giant. Coupled with the ion burst generator the ship is able to trap hostile ships across a extensively large space before activating the burst generator to disable all of them in a single move. This would negate virtually any chance for a fleeing ship to escape the ion burst. Once the hostile ships are disable, any one of her Gamma-class assault shuttles or drill pod boarding craft can be deployed to perform boarding operations. However the “Shadow” has taken lessons from its predecessor. To further prevent her main ion weapon being destroyed the “Shadow” carries a trio of experimental ion pulse L-41C weapon power converters. These power converters are not only to transfer engine power to the ion pulse apertures for a more deeply penetrating ion burst, but they are also able to reconvert energy already chambered into the ion apertures, effectively able to safely abort the firing process. This energy can then be funneled either back into any other part of the ship, such as the “Shadow’s” power grid or as a boost to other systems such as shields, engines or other weapons systems. In fact the entire structure of the “Shadow” was designed to negate the weaknesses of the “Malevolence”; both her entire hull and her armor plating are constructed from Sith-alchemized impervium and lined with reinforced duraplast-lined, rendering it virtually unbreakable and immune to external ion attacks. Additionally the “Shadow’s” impervium armor plating is further augmented with Sith runes inscribed across its surfaces, weaving both spells of fear and demoralization for its enemies and mental strength and physical renewal for nearby allies.

Spread across the starboard and port hull within the trenches running along her sides are the many hangar bays housing the “Shadow’s” many droid tri-fighters. Through these launch bays the tri-fighters can be instantly deployed en masse to overwhelm the enemy. Dotted alongside the launch bay doors are the twenty tractor beam projectors, each strategically placed to reel in disabled vessels into the nearest hangar. All across the “Shadow’s” hull are the components of her R-PB6 repair system; two thousand dedicated repair droids - also synchronized with the ship’s wetware core - lie in wait just within the magnetic shield of the launch bays, ready to spring out at a moment’s notice to attend to any damages the “Shadow” sustained. For any damages her droids may have sustained, the “Shadow” also houses a massive dedicated repair bay that is able to rapidly reconstruct her droids. For the few organic officers on board, the dreadnaught also houses a fully equipped medical bay for attending to any injuries they may receive. And should it become necessary for those few organic beings to abandon ship, the “Shadow” is outfitted with fifty escape pods located through her hull to provide safe escape. But even then the dreadnaught's signal baffler, jammer and scrambler combination suite, used in concert with its Vanish 3 military sensor masking system, effectively conceal the “Shadow” from all but visual detection, at which point it is all but too late to avoid the dreadnaught’s ambush. Further complimenting the “Shadow’s” systems is its S-s3a long range tachyon detection scanner and active tracker dual suite, allowing it to sense and follow the trajectory of other starships both in hyperspace and beyond planetary detection range, which in turn made for the capability of laying ambushes and planning for large-scale operations that much easier.

Biography: Born on Kalee during the time of the Huk War, Rhakknahla’ashva was raised as a warrior of the Kummar clan who guarded the sacred catacombs they inhabited. The maternal first cousin of Karolus Rexx Sheelal, Rhakknahla’ashva - or Rhaknaahl for short - was the grandson of Sanning Obojd Kummar, who in turn was the mother of Ronderu Iij Kummar, Karolus Sheelal’s mother. Trained to be the next guardian of the catacombs Rhaknaahl was groomed to fill the vacuum left after the tribal purge made by his aunt before his birth - the source of the rumors surrounding the former’s past to outsiders in later years. When he was still a young child, his cousin and their grandmother were sent to live with Rhaknaahl in the catacombs at the behest of the former’s father. Both Karolus and Rhaknaahl bonded in their young age and quickly became fast friends. However when Karolus was captured by the Huk Rhaknaahl was devastated. But the then-five year old Rhaknaahl was not powerful enough to pursue his cousin’s captors. Enraged and grief-stricken at the loss of his family, the young Rhaknaahl channeled his emotions into his training, swearing to avenge the loss of his friend and bring him home.

280938383_550468616676095_4257454803793115336_n.png
After the disappearance of Qymaen Sheelal, the last surviving member of his Izvosha elite guard, Bentilais san Sk’ar, returned to Kalee. Rallying what remained of the Kaleesh kolkpravis fighting force, Sk’ar gathered the Kaleeh to strike the Huk-controlled world of Oben. Believing that his cousin was imprisoned on Oben and that this was a chance to free him, Rhaknaahl eagerly joined the fight. Despite his youth he was accepted amongst the fighting force and underneath Sk’ar command helped to eradicate the Huk. Rhaknaahl would go on to contribute to many of the kolkpravis’ victories. Leading ground forces through harrowing trench assaults and raining death from above as both a gunner and eventually starfighter pilot in aerial raids, Rhaknaahl would come to earn the moniker “Warmonger” - one that would eventually become his callsign proper - from his ability to shake his comrades from shell-shock stupor and lead them to victory against all odds. He would even design a personal insignia for himself as a display of defiance against his enemies and rallying point for the kolkpravis; a red coffin on a black field with a stylized Kaleesh death mask over the coffin’s lid. However, when the Huk were finally exterminated Rhaknaahl’s victories quickly became hollow; a quick examination of the Huk records revealed that Karolus had been sold into slavery long before the kolkpravis ever concieved of the assault with no indication of when or where his cousin had been sold. Fuming he took small solace in his victory on Oben that the Kaleesh had struck a blow to the Huk. As Sk’ar began organizing the migration of the Kaleesh to Oben he instructed Rhaknaahl and the Kummar clan to remain on Kalee in their duties as guardians of the catacombs as a contingency against the possibility of the tombs being defiled once again.

Resuming his watch over the Kaleesh catacombs, Rhaknaahl held fast against excursions by the Galactic Empire for nearly a decade under the direction of Sk’ar. At the end of the Kaleesh-Imperial Conflict he would come into conflict with Captain Thrawn soon after during the latter’s campaign to conquer the Kalee. Seeking to explore the catacombs in search of material to study, Thrawn sent in armed expeditions into the tombs. Rhaknaahl reacted quickly and violently. The first expeditions sent in were slaughtered to the man. In response Thrawn heavier landing forces against Rhaknaahl as Thrawn sent his main forces against Oben. Outnumbered and outgunned the Kummat clan would suffer heavy casualties as they held out in the besieged catacombs. Rhaknaahl’s grandmother, Sanning Obojd Kummar, was severely injured, her body all but destroyed in an orbital bombardment that the catacombs barely survived. When Sk’ar surrendered to Thrawn, one of the terms was aid for the Kaleesh to help them recover, including medical aid for Sanning Kummar who was barely hanging onto life. Thrawn agreed. Using brain-extracting technology used by the B’omarr monks Imperial doctors were able to successfully transfer Sanning’s brain into a B’omarr brain jar. Using a BT-16 spider droid, like the disembodied monks did, Sanning was able to continue acting as Rhaknaahl’s councilor as the latter took on the role of the Kummar clan’s chieftain. In exchange for their loyalty Thrawn was able to broker an agreement between the Empire and the Kaleesh; they would faithfully serve the Empire and in return Rhaknaahl would be assigned to continue guarding the system on the Empire’s behalf with minimal interference from his new masters.

Rhaknaahl would continue guarding Kalee for the following years with little disruption. Even after the fall of the Galactic Empire he would maintain his watch over his homeworld, as the fall of the Empire did little to affect the affairs of the Kaleesh day-to-day. But all that changed when his cousin, now known as Grievance Vexx, returned to Kalee after having ascended as a Sith Lord. Astonished by his cousin’s transformation and overjoyed to be reunited with him Rhaknaahl spent the night catching up with Vexx. By morning, Rhaknaahl and Vexx had come together with a plan for the future; with Vexx as the new lord of Kalee, Rhaknaahl was officially appointed as the planet’s chief of defense, chief of the to be reorganized kolkpravis and the first of Lord Vexx’s reborn Izvoshra. As Vexx returned to Sith space that afternoon Rhaknaahl began the reconstruction of Kalee under the Sith Lord’s direction. Over the years under Vexx’s guidance and Rhaknaahl’s hand Kalee would be restored to a glory not seen since before the Huk War.

After ascending to the Sith Dark Council, Vexx returned to Kalee seeking Rhaknaahl. With his new station the Sith Lord was ordering the construction of a new flagship for his House - and he wanted Rhaknaahl to be its captain. Rhaknaahl immediately accepted his cousin’s offer. During the conversation their grandmother stepped in, requesting that she may not only take part in the creation of the vessel - as she wished to continue to aid her grandsons in the best way that she could - but that she may be made a part of it as well. Vexx consented. As part of her request when the “Dodens Skugga”, or “Shadow of Death” as it was translated in Galactic Basic, was having its processing core built, Sanning’s brain was cybernetically implanted into the ship’s mainframe, forever fusing her to it and giving her a new “body”.

As the dawn of a new war looms on the horizon, both Rhaknaahl and Sanning eagerly await the call to join Vexx in the Sith to eradicate their enemies and to demonstrate the might of the reborn Kaleeh.
